Milwaukee Miniature show highlights: Meet the artists and shop owners (part 2)

Miniaturists, Uncategorized

Happy Monday! I’m back with more mini inspiration for you. Here are Marcella and Diamond, two more of the talented miniaturists I met this past weekend at the Milwaukee Miniature Show.

Meet Marcella of Cutie Mini Dolls!

Marcella was so much fun to talk with! I really had fun getting to know her. She makes these adorable porcelain dolls, creating every detail down to the tiny hand-crocheted dresses and bonnets herself. (Check out that teensy crochet hook!)

Milwaukee Miniature show highlights: Meet the artists and shop owners (part 1)

Miniaturists, Uncategorized

I met so many other talented miniaturists when I was signing books at the Milwaukee Dollhouse and Miniature Show yesterday. Come on a little tour with me. Here in part 1 you’ll meet Suzanne of Suzanne’s Miniatures and Bradley L. Meinke of Purple B Emporium.

Meet Suzanne!

I LOVE her style. She makes lots of fun miniatures that look like something you’d really see in a modern (or 1970s or 1980s) house, like overflowing hampers and tiny mops. She’s is about to open a miniatures shop in St. Louis. If you’re in that area, please pay her a visit and support her new business!

Meet Bradley L Meinke of Purple B Emporium!

IGMA Artisan Bradley Meinke of Purple B Emporium

Bradley belongs to the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, class of 2017. Per the IGMA website, “The primary goal of The Guild is to promote fine miniatures as an art form, thus removing them from the category of crafts. This goal is achieved in various ways… all of them innovative and exciting! The Guild is a mixture of miniaturists, both collectors and artisans, who have much in common… an appreciation of fine miniatures. We are an organization which unites them both!” Learn more about the IGMA here.

A boho dollhouse you’ll love

Miniaturists

Now and then I like to feature the work of other miniaturists here on my blog. Today I’m sharing Shelly Torkelson’s boho dollhouse. Shelly is from Madison, too, and I came across her dollhouse when I was perusing Craigslist the other day. Isn’t is amazing? The best part? Currently, it’s still for sale! All photos copyright Shelly Torkelson, shared with her permission.

Today I created this sweet little room box:

The faux light fixture and two baskets shown above are recent purchases from Etsy artist MiniHome Co. Below is a photo of all my recent purchases from her: Two baskets, a macrame-style wall hanging, and three faux light fixtures. Check out her Etsy shop here.

The cute little glass animals are recent purchases from my trip to Prague.

The pink tasseled wall-hanging was made from some inexpensive jewelry.

This mirror was a quick project. You just need a snippet of twine, any inexpensive craft store mirror, and some glue.

The Mouse Mansion

Miniaturists

Have you heard of the Mouse Mansion? I stumbled upon this adorable display (about 1/12 scale) at the Amsterdam airport when I was traveling last week. I’ve often noticed when traveling in Europe that they’re WAY more into dollhouses and miniatures than we Americans are. I remember, years ago, seeing a beautiful little shop in Venice devoted to nothing but extremely high-end roomboxes. Somehow, I can’t picture that kind of shop making a go of it at an American mall.

Here are some photos I took of the adorable display. Check out their website using the link above to learn more.

A bohemian living room with a handmade wall hanging

Furniture and decor I've purchased, Handmade decor for my mini house, Miniaturists, Tweaking store-bought dollhouse furniture

Inspired by some more clearance jewelry finds, I made this cute pink tasseled wall hanging for a comfy room box living room!

This yarn, above, looks a little too thick for this project, so I’ll try it with some finer-weight pink thread instead.

Carefully remove the tassels… (Watch out for flying bits of metal!)

A bit of a kabob skewer works great for this project!

Done!

FEATURED MINIATURIST: A loft dollhouse by miniaturist Melissa Johnson

Miniaturists, Uncategorized

Please note, this post is highlighting the work of miniaturist Melissa Johnson.

Melissa Johnson has been a wonderfully supportive fan of FlipThis(Mini)House over the years. She recently reached out to me to show off the loft-style dollhouse she just completed. With her permission, I’m sharing it here!

Made from scratch from an Ikea wood storage box and decorated with a combination of handmade furniture and vintage pieces from the 60’s and 70’s, it’s truly a one-of-a-kind piece! Finished size is 18X18 inches.
