A closer look at the Flip This (Mini) House project

Flipping my mini house

For the past few months, I’ve been holding off on revealing the Flip This (Mini) House project. Today’s the day I’m going to give you a closer look at some of the finished details, starting with the kitchen! Let me know what you think!

Bohemian Inspiration

Blogs and websites that inspire

This doesn’t happen very often! Here’s a blog that’s so delightful that I’m sharing it on both Holly Recommends and Flip This (Mini) House. Thanks to my friend Janet for seeing this in the first place and recognizing how much full-size and mini-size inspiration I’d find in it.

A new mini house to flip?

A new house flipping project

I got together with my friend Janet a few days ago. You may remember her as the friend who found my original mini house at a flea market, back in the summer of 2014. It was just $35! She and her husband then brought it to me and the blog Flip This (Mini) House was born.

Well… She’s at it again. Here’s her latest find. This one I got for the low price of free. It’s in pretty bad shape, but, like my original project, I see a great deal of potential in it. I’m not really sure that I’m ready for another mini house flipping project just yet, but maybe when the snow begins to fall outside I’ll change my mind.

Miniature Resources

Uncategorized

If you love miniatures, here’s a great list of resources, blogs, and artists, compiled by miniaturist Jennifer Nichole Wells.

I’ve gotten questions over the years about where I source my miniatures and where to find good resources for those starting out in miniature photography. I’ve begun to compile a list of stores, websites, artists and articles that I hope will be helpful to some of you. If you have question, always feel free to ask.

Flipping my mini house

Here is a sneak peek at my front door!

The light above the door is made from a tiny bottle of Curve cologne, two candlestick wax catchers, a small brass ring, and a chain. The planters are West Elm measuring cups. The mid century doorknob and backplate are made from a button and star I cut from aluminum foil. The welcome mat is cut from a place mat.

A tiny dresser gets a luxe makeover

Tweaking store-bought dollhouse furniture

My mini house has many metallic touches, gold in particular. I liked the scale of this dresser for my mini master bedroom, but didn’t feel the style worked at all with the mid-century-chic feel of my home, so I decided to give it a little makeover.

Here’s the end result:

I glued wood balls to the base and spray painted it gold leaving the drawers unpainted.

Not exactly mid century modern, but appropriately luxe and adorable in my mini master bedroom, and such an improvement over the old look!

After almost a year of flipping my mini house…

It’s almost ready for the grand unveiling! Here’s a look at the exterior:

Soon you’ll get to see the other side! See which of my handmade items, eBay finds, splurges, and repurposed household objects made the final cut. But first, there are a few more pieces of trim to install, a couple of places where the paint needs to be touched up, and a some final decorating decisions to be made.

From so-so to super! A new look for this tiny sofa

Handmade decor for my mini house

I picked up this sofa at a garage sale a couple of months ago.

While I haven’t been obsessive about the scale within my mini house (in part because there are issues within the house itself, with differences in door frames and things like that), this sofa leaned toward being a little too big. However, I thought I’d refinish it with some of my awesome mid century fabric I got at the St. Vinny’s in Canada last month, just to see if I could make it work.

The end result is quite cute, but especially with the addition of the legs, I feel that it might be a tad too big for my house. We’ll see if it makes the final decorating cut…

My roof is almost finished (really!)

Flipping my mini house

Here’s a look at my nearly finished roof! As you can also see, the chimney will be covered in blue stones to match the exterior paint. Once I add grout it will look better. This part of the project has taken as long as the rest of it combined!
